Monterey Weekend

For those of you that don't know, Dave and I lived in Monterey for a year and a half. We still have some friends down there so we decided to visit them last weekend. We stayed with our friends, the Gieslers. They're really awesome and they just moved into a new apartment so we had to check it out.

We got there late Friday but stayed up talking and watching the Olympics. Next morning we moved pretty slow but finally got ready and headed to the Wharf for lunch. I really wanted Clam Chowder. Every restaurant on the wharf claims they have the best. I have now eaten at 3 different places and they all taste great and basically the same. After that we headed to Point Lobos to do some hiking. When we got there however, it was closed because of a Tsunami Warning. Apparently the quakes in Chile were a threat to Monterey. Bummer, but we headed down the road and hung out on the beach. It was a beautiful day but a little chilly. We didn't get washed away either from a Tsunami. Crazy.

This is us doing the little hiking we got to. We are leaving Point Lobos.

Dave built a mini rock wall to protect Sunshine from the Tsumani and Jordan dug a hole so all the water from the Tsunami would go in the hole and completely miss him. Yeah, we had a few laughs about the Tsunami warning.

After that we headed to the mall and did a little bit of shopping. Then we went and saw the movie, Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightening Thief. It was enjoyable but I don't think it was a favorite of anyone. Afterwards we got some Cold Stone Ice Cream. Delish! We just hung out at the apartment the rest of the night.

Sunday we went to our old ward which has totally changed. The turnover rate is huge. There is a lot of military so people don't stay very long. Only a few of our friends are left. We went to our friend's the Homas for lunch. It was really fun to see David and Sonja, who is very pregnant. I can't wait for them to have their first baby. Then we did some visiting with other friends and had dinner at the Yoder's. I feel like we ate a lot on this trip. We didn't stay too long because we had to get back on the road to face the 3 hour drive home. It was a really great weekend and it was fun to see so many people. I even ran into Jonathan who I used to work with at the Recreation Department. We sure do miss Monterey!

(Sorry for the journal-like entry.)
